Service
Accutron watches, although electronic, need periodic service to keep working: oil dries. Dirt gets in the watch during battery swaps. A well taken care of Accutron will live a century and more. Probably. We shall see in 40 years.
There’s a handful of people, most of them way more experienced than me, who service tuning fork watches over the globe. However, they may not be close to your place, and shipping a watch oversea can be a little unsettling. I live in France, within the EEC, and can service your watch (Accutron 214, 218/219, 230 and 2210).
A service consists in :
- Disassembly
- Visual inspection of all parts and cleaning
- Reassembly and oiling/greasing
- Phasing (to the modern Silver Oxyde voltage)
- Regulating to -2 to -1 second per day (unworn)
- Polishing of the crystal
- Buffing of gold-plated case, refinishing of Stainless Steel case (shall you want me to do it)
- Re-luming of the hands and dial if needed
Tools
- Standard clockmaker tools
- Accutron tools and mounts
- Accutron Watchmaker meter
- Variable voltage power supply
- Vibrograf electronic and quartz timegrapher
Any part needing to be replaced will be quoted beforehand. The electronics can have suffered damage (the windings wires are way thinner than a hair, and can break ; battery leaks can eat through the copper wire too). The delicate 320-teeth index wheel may be damaged, or worn out, or even wobbly. Phasing a watch with a bad index wheel (if it turns at all) is complicated, if not impossible. Last, it happens that a wheel pinion is bent, worn out or broken.
